Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (or CBT as its commonly known) is a form of psychotherapy that combines cognitive therapy and behaviour therapies, emphasising the importance of ‘how we think affects how we feel and what we do’.

In simple terms, cognitive behavioural therapy addresses negative patterns and distortions in the way we look at the world and ourselves. As the name suggests, this involves two main components:

Cognitive therapy – examines how negative thoughts or cognitions contribute to negative emotion.

Behavioural therapy – examines how you react to and behave in situations that trigger a negative emotion.

The Basic Premise Of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

It’s our thoughts or irrational beliefs – not external events – that affect the way we feel. In other words, it’s not the situation that determines how you feel, but your perception of the situation.

Your thoughts can block you from seeing things that don’t fit in with what you believe which can cause you problems if you continue to hold on to them. CBT can help you to identify and challenge any unhealthy beliefs whilst at the same time helping you to identify and reinforce a series of more helpful and rational beliefs – consequently changing the way you feel.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is not about “positive thinking” it is about thinking realistically and logically in situations that are experienced as highly distressing. Common problems CBT can help with:

Anxiety. Depression. Anger. Low self-confidence/self-esteem. Panic Attacks. Phobias. Stress Management.

  I would like to give a testimony of my wonderful experience as a patient of Dr Oliphant. I have recently had an upper lid Blepharoplasty.

Despite only being in my early thirties, I had concerns over a degree of asymmetry. Following a road traffic accident some years ago, I had developed Bells Palsy which had left my left eye slightly lopsided.

A close friend (also a medical professional) had told me, “the only man to see is Dr Huw Olpihant!”
Meeting Huw for the first time at my initial consultation was great. We spent time discussing my concerns and he was incredibly understanding and honest. He insisted I go away for a few weeks to consider if the procedure was the route i’d like to take.

My procedure itself was far less intrusive than I had imagined. I chatted away the whole time!
Recovery was also much easier than anticipated. The first couple of days were a little sore, as to be expected, but easily manageable with some paracetamol.
Huw went above and beyond to check in with me and be supportive following the procedure.

The end result… incredible. It’s such a subtle change which has really opened my face up again and people have commented how fresh faced I look - which is always lovely to hear!

I wanted to share my experience for anyone who is considering this type of procedure, to be assured that Huw is 100% your guy. He is a highly skilled surgeon, both caring and kind.

  I have had facial vein treatments from time to time over many years, but I have to say that the treatment at The Doctor Clinic with Nikki has been the best by far. Just three treatments and those pesky little broken veins have been removed. My skin is the clearest it has looked for a very long time. So a big thank you to Nikki.

The Clinic is a lovely, light and welcoming space to have treatments. I look forward to returning for other treatments in the future.

Oh, and excellent parking spaces available too!!

  I came from Brighton and Hove to The Doctor Clinic in Lewes to see Dr Charlie for Botox injections. It was my first time and she made me feel so comfortable and was very professional.   Just an all-round fantastic experience at The Doctor Clinic. I wouldn't go anywhere else. I am absolutely thrilled with my results from Morpheus 8 as I wanted to tighten some parts of my skin. I have also had botox here which is also fantastic with competitive pricing but with the 5* experience. I just can't wait for them to open up the dentist!
